About Us
Elegant Stems (previously called Jan's flowers), is a small local floristry business run by Mother and Daughter duo Jan and Carla, based in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. With 30 years of experience in floristry and a passion for fantastic floral design and good quality flowers, an impressive client list has been built on reputation and recommendation. Traditional floristry training combined with contemporary ideas means all types of floral design are catered for: from our namesake "Elegant" to Wacky, Contemporary, Classic, Romantic, Serene and Traditional.
Elegant Stems provides clients with a unique, personal floristy service, our customers come back to us time and time again because of the quality of our products and the special personal touches. We remember birthdays and anniversaries, we get husbands out of trouble when they've forgotten, we know what floral designs and types of flowers our regulars like and we do our upmost to keep them happy!

Elegant double act in full bloom
A LIFETIME'S experience in floristry and a degree in business management have combined to bring mother and daughter Jan and Carla Zelezinski together in a new business, Elegant Stems.
Jan has worked in floristry since leaving school and rose to become a director of the main supplier of Marks and Spencer's flowers, before leaving to have children. She has been running a successful floristry business from home in Bishop's Stortford since then.
Daughter Carla studied business management at Cardiff University before living and travelling in Australia. On her return to the UK, she decided she wanted to run her own business, so went into partnership with her mum.
"I saw huge potential in what mum was doing and decided it would be great to see what we could do by combining mum's floristry skill and my marketing and sales background," said Carla.
Their idea is to keep the same business philosophy that has worked so well for Jan over the years - offering a very personal service, great floristry and good quality flowers.
Carla has built a customer database and they've recently done a big mailshot to existing customers.
Elegant Stems offers a full range of floristry services from weddings, funerals and special events to regular flower arrangements for homes and businesses, and flowers sent UK-wide through the postal service.
"At the moment, we are able to work from home in Thorley, but, hopefully, we will soon be over capacity and looking for premises," said Carla.
To launch the business, Elegant Stems is holding open days today (Thursday, 16 March), tomorrow (Friday, 17 March) and Saturday.
"We hope customers will come and have a drink with us to celebrate the new partnership and for mum to thank them for their years of custom," added Carla.
